About Val (The Blogger, aka "Para")
I've been an amateur herpetologist since my childhood growing up in the
swamplands of southern Michigan. I spent a good portion of my childhood
catching snakes, carrying frogs in my pockets, and dipping for
tadpoles. I once "caught" a snapping turtle that barely fit in a banana
box...to my mother's horror. I went on to earn a collection of college
and graduate degrees in the natural and social sciences. I've been a
guest speaker and animal interaction presenter at veterinary conferences
and public education events, but my main passion has been teaching
college Biology/Zoology courses. I've had just about everything for a
pet over the years--dogs, cats, ferrets, frogs, snakes, turtles,
rodents, birds, insects, etc. Our current home zoo includes a retired
show dog, domestic ferrets, a small chorus of horned frogs, several tubs of feeder insects,...and a yard
full of wildlife.
About Alex (The Photographer)
Alex is the silent artist behind many of the (better) photographs on Paraherpetology. By day, Alex is an Electronics Engineer. On weekends, Alex tags along to reptile and amphibian events to snap pictures and keep Val from enlarging the home zoo. Although not a fan of live crawling critters, Alex enjoys building and collecting robotic insects. One day, the robot bug army will outnumber the feeder insects and take over the house...then the world!
